Founded in 1997, Comité Pro Uno is a community-based environmental justice organization in Maywood, California that works at the intersection of environmental justice, immigration, and equity for Maywood’s Hispanic community.
Comité Pro Uno has been involved in organizing community members to fight for better water quality, against lead emissions from the Exide Technologies secondary lead smelter, and many other pollutants in Maywood and surrounding communities.
Comité Pro Uno has provided continuous services to Maywood residents for more than 20 years. The Coalition for Clean Air has long fought for cleaner cars and trucks traveling the I-710 freeway and for the reduction of toxic air contaminant emissions in Maywood and other Southeast Los Angeles communities.
Comité Pro Uno served as the lead for project activities in the Southeast Los Angeles study area.
