Comité Pro Uno is a community based organization headquartered in Maywood but serving residents of the industrial cities of Southeast Los Angeles.
We fought for the rights of immigrant workers when local Police Departments would take away the vehicles of immigrant drivers.
We engage with the main environmental regulatory agencies like EPA, DTSC, AQMD, and Los Angeles County Public Health; to advocate for the health rights of working class communities that do not know the effects of living next to lead contaminated sites and many other toxins in our land, air and water.
Members fight for justice through civic action, they organize educational and community events, and membership-fees help to sustain our core services:
1) Legal - Defending immigrant workers and families in the courts;2) Advocacy - The fight for environmental justice;3) Organizing - To empower the communities we serve;4) Media Relations - Help shape views that form a more accurate public perception about environmental contamination.

For decades, we have been advocating for the clean up of contaminated sites like Pemaco, TCE and Dioxins, Exide (Lead), and Sterigenics (Ethylene oxide).
This advocacy creates awareness and consciousness within a Spanish speaking population that is willing to participate in their own defense.
However, Comité Pro Uno’s impact depends directly on the support of our members.
Help us build a world where no community is marginalized, where immigrant workers and their families too, can enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
